Sports socks
Choose the length for your sport
Sports socks come in three typical lengths. Ankle socks end just above the shoe and are popular for running in summer. Trainer socks are hidden completely inside the shoe. Crew socks go some way above the ankle and stop the edge of the shoe rubbing when you move a lot sideways.
For running, most people choose ankle socks or trainer socks. For padel and tennis, crew length is a good choice, because you are constantly stopping and changing direction. For the gym and classes, it is mostly about what feels best in your shoes.
| Length | Ends | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Trainer sock | Hidden in the shoe | Running and training |
| Ankle sock | Just above the shoe | Summer running |
| Crew sock | Above the ankle | Padel and tennis |
Running socks: thin, snug and crease-free
A good running sock sits smoothly on the foot without creasing, and the heel sits exactly where your heel is. Flat seams over the toes reduce rubbing on long runs. Many runners prefer a thin sock in summer and a slightly thicker one in winter, so the shoe still fits when the foot warms up and swells a little.

Padel socks and tennis socks: for stops and side steps
Padel and tennis load the foot differently from running. You make short sprints, hard stops and side steps, so the foot slides back and forth in the shoe. Tennis socks and padel socks therefore often have a little more cushioning under the heel and forefoot and a snug fit around the midfoot, so the sock does not twist.
Cotton, terry or synthetic?
Pure cotton is soft, but it soaks up sweat and dries slowly, and wet socks make blisters more likely. Training socks are therefore usually made from synthetic blends, such as polyester or polyamide with elastane, which wick moisture away and hold their shape. Terry under the foot means small loops in the fabric that give a softer feel with every step.
Choose your size by shoe size. Wash the socks inside out at a low temperature, skip the fabric softener and let them dry on a rack.
What you can expect from Zilenzo
All our designs come from a collaboration between artificial intelligence and us: AI suggests lots of patterns and colours based on the sport, and we select and adapt them until they suit the product. That is how our socks will be designed too. In the meantime, take a look at our running, padel and tennis T-shirts.
Frequently asked questions
Which socks are best for running?
The best running socks are thin ankle socks in a synthetic blend that sit smoothly without creasing and dry quickly. Flat seams over the toes reduce rubbing. Choose your size by shoe size.
What is the difference between ankle socks and crew socks?
Ankle socks end just above the shoe, while crew socks go some way above the ankle. Crew length protects against rubbing from the edge of the shoe and is often chosen for padel and tennis. Ankle socks are mostly worn for running.
Can I use the same socks for padel and tennis?
Yes. Both sports involve lots of stops and side steps, so the same sports socks with a little cushioning and a snug fit work for both. The most important thing is that the sock does not twist in the shoe.
