Sports shorts

Length: short, mid-length or long shorts?

Running shorts are often short so your legs can move freely with every stride. For padel, tennis and badminton, many players prefer a mid-length cut that leaves room for deep lunges without feeling exposed. In basketball, long, roomy shorts are a tradition, while in football and handball it is often the club colours that decide. Try dropping into a deep lunge: if the fabric pulls across your thigh or rides up, the shorts are too short or too narrow.

Waistband, drawcord and pockets

An elasticated waistband with a drawcord keeps your shorts in place, even when they get heavy with sweat. For tennis and padel, pockets are handy because many players keep a spare ball in their pocket for the second serve. For running, a small zip pocket for a key or card is useful, whereas a heavy phone in a loose pocket soon starts to bounce.

Fabric and inner shorts

Training shorts in a light, synthetic fabric dry faster than cotton and don't get heavy halfway through a session. Some running shorts have built-in inner shorts or short tights inside, which add support and reduce chafing on long runs. If you are prone to chafing between the thighs, a pair with built-in tights, or a pair of tights underneath, is often the answer.

Men's shorts and women's shorts

Men's and women's styles are rarely just the same shorts in two sizes. The cut around the hips and thighs is different, and the length varies. For racket sports, some women also choose a skirt or a skort with built-in shorts. Whatever the style, check the measurements in the size guide rather than just going by S, M and L.

While you wait for our sports shorts

Our first sports shorts are on the way. Like everything from Zilenzo, they will have a design created with artificial intelligence and adapted by us for cut and movement, and we will only release them once they are ready – so no date yet. In the meantime, you can find a T-shirt for your sport among our 21 polyester designs, and if you join Zilenzo Club, we will let you know when the shorts arrive.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best shorts for training?

The best training shorts are made from a light, quick-drying fabric with an elasticated waistband and a length that lets you move freely in deep lunges. Choose short shorts for running and mid-length shorts for racket sports such as padel and tennis.

What is the difference between running shorts and training shorts?

Running shorts are usually shorter and lighter, and often have inner shorts and a small pocket for keys. Training shorts are a little longer and roomier, so they suit indoor sports, strength training and racket sports.

Does Zilenzo sell sports shorts?

Not yet. Our first sports shorts are on the way, but we are not promising a date. Join Zilenzo Club to be notified, and take a look at our sports T-shirts, which you can buy today.

How do I avoid chafing in shorts?

Choose shorts with flat seams and a smooth, synthetic fabric, or wear tights underneath on long runs. The inner shorts in running shorts also help many people. Avoid cotton on long runs, because it gets wet and rubs.
