Light training jacket
Windproof, water-repellent or waterproof?
A lightweight running jacket is usually built for wind, not for downpours. Windproof fabric stops the cold air that would otherwise draw the heat out of your body, and that is often enough for a run in autumn weather. Water-repellent means the fabric can handle a shower before the water gets through. A fully waterproof jacket keeps more rain out, but it is heavier and less breathable, so you risk getting wet from the inside with your own sweat.
If you mostly run in dry, windy weather, a training windbreaker is the best choice. If you also train when it is pouring down, look for a jacket that is both water-repellent and well ventilated.
Ventilation, reflective details and pockets
A lightweight training jacket needs to be able to release heat. Look for vents on the back or under the arms, mesh in the lining or a zip you can open part of the way on the move. In the winter months, many people run in the dark, and reflective details on the chest, back and sleeves make you visible to drivers and cyclists from several directions. A zip pocket for a key or phone is nice, but it needs to sit where it won't bounce with every stride.
If the jacket packs into its own pocket or rolls up in your hand, it is easy to carry once you have warmed up and want to take it off.

How a lightweight jacket should fit
The jacket should have room for a T-shirt or a thin top underneath, but not so much fabric that it flaps in a headwind. The sleeves can be slightly long, so they cover your wrists as your arms swing. A back panel that drops a little lower than the front keeps your lower back warm when you lean forward. Try lifting your arms above your head: if the jacket rides up over your stomach, it is too short or too narrow.
Use the size guide and measure your chest over the clothes you normally run in.
From warm-up to run
Lightweight training jackets are used for much more than running. Football and handball players wear them during the warm-up and take them off just before kick-off. Many people cycle to training in them, and a training jacket that packs small is easy to keep in your bag for away matches. Pair the jacket with tights or tracksuit bottoms, and you have a light set that covers most training days.
Zilenzo and AI design
We use artificial intelligence to create our designs, and we are happy to say so. The process starts with a sport and a mood, gives us lots of ideas for patterns and colours, and ends with a selection that we adapt to the cut and the movement. Right now, you can see the results on our men's and women's T-shirts in sizes XS–XXL. The jackets will follow, but we are not promising a date.
Frequently asked questions
Which lightweight training jacket is best for running?
For most runners, a light, windproof jacket with good ventilation and reflective details is the best choice. It keeps the wind out without getting too warm. If you often run in the rain, choose one that is also water-repellent.
Is a lightweight running jacket waterproof?
Usually not completely. Most lightweight running jackets are windproof and often water-repellent, so they can handle a shower, but not hours of rain. A fully waterproof jacket is heavier and less breathable.
What should I wear under a lightweight training jacket?
A light, quick-drying base layer, such as a polyester T-shirt. If it is cold, you can add a thin long-sleeved top. Avoid cotton, which holds on to sweat.
Does Zilenzo sell lightweight training jackets?
Not yet. Our first lightweight training jackets are on the way, and Zilenzo Club members will hear from us when they are ready. Today we sell polyester T-shirts.
